Hotel Cape Charles

For a swank 16-room hotel in old Cape Charles, ADO carved a bright and inviting design from four dark narrow commercial structures. On Mason Avenue second floor balcony, the walls are dissolved and replaced by panes of glass, opening up the entire facade. All of the rooms have access to the outdoors, where two outdoor showers and a second-story balcony are located off the rear courtyard and are flooded with as much light as possible. Light functions as a design feature, especially in the open and airy public spaces, especially in the second floor lobby with its skylit, citron-colored rotunda. The reclaimed wood casework and furniture in the guest rooms were the result of the collaboration of architect and the owner/contractor.
