Clients Shawn Stilwell and Darren Brown recognized the potential in what many regarded as an unbuildable vacant site. Located at the end of a string of traditional suburban houses in Richmond’s early 20th century Ginter Park neighborhood, the narrow triangular lot bound by two alleys and the street seemed just that, unbuildable. Working with Atlas’s desire to build a light, contemporary house, ADO extruded the triangular lot and filled the volume with a variety of modern living spaces, from front stoops that align with the neighboring residences to a rear garden. Upon stepping in the front door, the entire house is revealed in a single panoramic swoop, enlivened by the large windows.
