the Preserve [Mid-Atlantic Coca Cola]

Anchoring the West edge of the historic Scott’s Addition industrial and warehousing district, ADO transformed the Mid-Atlantic Coca Cola Bottling Building and site into one of the first, of many to follow, residential communities in the district. 1980’s concrete walled additions were removed to recover the historic complex of buildings, characterized by low but austere historic production warehouses arranged around the central plant’s smoke stack and fronted by a 1960’s office building, bright with aluminum and ceramic facades. The historic buildings were balanced by a new residential structure designed by Cox Kliewer Architects with exteriors by ADO. The project was executed in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and National Park Services for rehabilitation of historic structures and districts.
